The Republic of Senegal has a recorded economic growth that is amongst the highest in Africa - more than 6% annually between 2014 and 2018. Unfortunately this is coupled with a high level of wealth inequality with about 39% of the population living below the poverty line and 75% of Senegalese households suffering from chronic poverty. While each sector has a role to play, we believe social entrepreneurs are uniquely positioned to develop new, more sustainable and more cost-efficient solutions to challenges facing humanity. They are highly motivated, in direct contact with those they seek to help, and unencumbered by the things that tend to get in the way of other actors. Female social entrepreneurs in Senegal face challenges. Many of them never formalize their enterprises becoming “survival entrepreneurs” without the possibility to grow and develop.
About Reach for Change
Reach for Change is an international non-profit founded in Sweden in 2010 and has since worked in 18 countries across 3 continents. Our vision is a world where all children and youth reach their full potential. We're working towards this vision by finding local social entrepreneurs and empowering them to develop and scale innovative solutions that help children to better lives.
Reach for Change and Kosmos Energy are currently implementing the 2022 Kosmos Innovation Center “KIC” Project in Senegal. The project aims to contribute to strengthening innovative social entrepreneurship in Senegal with a special focus on climate adaptation and mitigation. This will be done through building the capacity of strong entrepreneurs in a climate focussed business incubator. This, in turn, will contribute to improved livelihoods and increased climate resilience. It will be done by running an innovation competition, to select the most innovative solutions to the biggest challenges tackling climate adaptation and mitigation through youth and women entrepreneurs. 5 competition winners will receive further training and coaching to strengthen their business.

identify the unique needs of women entrepreneurs in Senegal
identify any constraints hindering them from participating in the program and propose mitigation strategies
