Reach for Change is a global non-profit founded in Sweden. Our vision is a world where everyone can shape their own future. We're working towards this vision by unleashing the power of local social entrepreneurs and enabling them to go from ideas to innovative solutions and sustainable organizations. We were co-founded by successful entrepreneurs in the non-profit and business sectors in 2010, and since then we have supported more than 2,000 social entrepreneurs in 18 countries across three continents.
About the role
As a Communications Manager, Ethiopia for Reach for Change, you are part of a smart, brave and passionate team, working for the Ethiopia team and reporting to the Country Manager. The role, in line with the overall long-term strategy for the organisation, includes developing in-country communication strategies and operational plans and following through the execution and evaluation.
The Communications Manager serves as the country lead for all communications and visibility efforts, with accountability for strategy development, execution, quality assurance, and alignment in close coordination with the Global Communications Team.
Your Key Roles and Responsibilities
Lead the development and implementation of the organization’s communications strategy and action plans.
Develop and recommend communication tools, systems, and guidelines to improve efficiency and impact.
Manage digital communications, including website and social media presence, in coordination with global team.
Ensure consistent, values-aligned messaging and adherence to branding guidelines across all platforms.
Oversee content development, quality assurance, and storytelling that demonstrates impact and learning.
Support stakeholder engagement and strategic partnerships, through effective communication.
Design and deliver strategic events and visibility moments as communications platforms, ensuring clear objectives, stakeholder targeting, media integration, and post-event amplification.
Provide technical input and leadership for communication-related procurements and recruitment processes.
Contribute to and support global communications projects such as the production of the annual Social Impact Report.
Contribute to partnership and resource mobilization initiatives by providing strategic communications support to the Country Manager.
Develop and manage proactive media relations, including media mapping, relationship management, spokesperson preparation, press briefings, and reputation sensitive communications in coordination with the Country Manager.
Shared team responsibilities:
Help and support the rest of the organisation during periods of intense workload to achieve team and organisational objectives.
Contribute to efforts to share best practice, ideas and experience on successful implementation of the programs externally and across the markets.
Continue to build the sense of ‘One Reach for Change’ by promoting a collaborative culture and efficient sharing of resources across all Reach for Change teams.
Build and retain your own knowledge about the field of social entrepreneurship and innovation.
Share knowledge internally across functions and markets contributing to RfC continued development as a learning organisation and externally supporting RfC strategy on thought leadership and ecosystem development.
What we are looking for
Technical & business skills:
Implement and use suitable tools and models to carry out activities and reach objectives as well as develop new tools and models.
Knowledge and ability to use appropriate marketing tools & models to create content and to reach target groups.
Plan and coordinate events that are aligned with Reach for Change brand identity and secure participation of relevant stakeholders and influencers.
Manage media mobilization, manage relationships with media outlets, develop press releases, media kits, and executive talking points.
Build, nurture, and maintain strong relationships with external partners.
Engage stakeholders, collaborators, and partners across sectors.
Coordinate partnership initiatives, timelines, and deliverables.
People & communication skills:
Excellent communication skills in English, both verbal and in writing.
Ability to quickly understand and use web-based applications and platforms will be considered an advantage.
Ability to receive and convey information from and between different target groups.
Good abilities in networking and interpersonal communication.
Ability to present ideas clearly to both internal teams and external stakeholders.
Demonstrated ability to work sensitively with diverse people, cultures, and communities.
Ability to facilitate teamwork by guiding, influencing and synthesising and helping a group reach a conclusion.
Ability to prioritise during intense periods and follow through to deliver on time both in one’s own work and in teams.
Ability and confidence to do professional networking while representing RfC at events, forums, and conferences to expand visibility and partnerships.
Education & experience:
Minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in strategic communications, preferably within international NGOs, social entrepreneurship, or development focused organizations.
Strong understanding of the Ethiopian media, policy, and social entrepreneurship landscape.
Knowledge of local languages is an advantage.
University degree in communications, public relations, business, economics, public administration or a related field.
Experience from project managing, leading, driving or coordinating programs.
Experience from work/volunteering within the philanthropic/non-profit or business sector will be an advantage.
Experience in working with International Organizations and good understanding of the Social Entrepreneurship ecosystem.
Knowledge and experience of local ecosystems and political structures.
Experienced user of Microsoft Office/Google Suite and ability to quickly understand and use web-based applications and platforms.
